A Neat Retort.
I A neat effort in repartee caused a ; hearty laugh at the commereial travel- | lers' smoke conc.rt at Wellington. Mr. ' E. Casey, Chief Engineer of the Rail1 way Department, was proposing the ; toast, "The Man on the Road," and he remarked that many years ago he I was asked why he had joined the Com- : mercial Travellers' Assoeiation. At this stage a voice interrupted with the words, "I'll he the mug." Mr. Casey joined in the laughter that went round the hall, but when it subsided he said, looking at the interjector, "And you look the part." (Renewed laughter.) He was allowed to finish his remax'ks without further interrupi tion.
