Rec. Sept. 30, 5.5 p.m. Athens, Sept. 29. Another violent earthquake completed the ruin of houses in the Chalcidice region. The victims- included some inhabitants who were sheltering in a house which the previous earthquake partially ruined. One fissure was created four miles long and two yards wide. The sea encroached on the land in many places. Most of the earthquake easualties were women and children. The inhabitants are teri'ified owing to rumours that the whole of the peninsula is likely to sink. Religious serviees are held day and night in the open air. The severest shake puts heaps of earth in villages 200 feet high. Supphurous fumes and dust clouds in the atmosphere render breathing difficult.
