REFORM MEETING CAUSES TROUBLE WITH UNITEDS GOT "RIDING INSTRUCTIONS"
Wellington, Thursday. Strong resentment has been caused among sorne of the United Party members of the Coalition because of a separate caucus of the Reform group held to-day. The meeting, it is reported, was summoned by Mr. Coates, but it is stated that at least two members did not attend. These were Messrs. A. M. Samuel (Thames), and R. A. Wright (Wellington Suburbs). No information is available as to the result of the gathering, although one Reformer stated late to-night, "there was nothing to it." This is the second occasion on which the Reform members have met independently, and without notice to their United colleagues in the Coalition. "It is not quite good enough," commented one United follower to-night, "if there are to be caucuses, they should be joint g-atherings. There should be no independent meetings, which bear the sign of secrecy. The United members have not been called aside by the Prime Minister, and it is strange that Mr. Coates should call his team in this fashion. There is a feeling- of strong resentment among us and it is -tui unnecessary cause of friction." An other member of the United Party stated that evidently members of the Reform group had "reeeived their riding instructions."
