— * . - i " Unusual Deer Head Two particularly fine- deer heads have arrived in Rotorua for Mr. Keith Richards who secured them in Lanceshorough in; the South Island last March. ' Both' are fifteen pointers. One is an fextremdly' even head but the other is peculiar in that it has ten tines on the one side and only five on the other. Mr. Richards had thenx mounted in Masterton and they are fine specimens of the taxidermists' art as well as being excellent sporting trophies. Waikato Hunt Nomjnations Owners and trainers of hunters and registered horses are reminded that nominations for the Waikato Hunt Club's annual meeting which is held on Labour Day, close with the secretary, Mr. Walter' Stopford, at five o'clock this evening. Further particulars will he found in another column, First Club Tramp The second general meeting of the recently formed Rotorua * Tramping Club will be held in the Majestic Ballroom, on Tuesclay evening, Oetober 4, to consider the .reconimendations of the provisional committee set up to consider a constitutioh/ It is also to be recommended to members that the first club tramp will be arranged for Sunday, Oetober 9. * Basketball Championship Tb'e members of the Waratah basketball team were entertained last evening at a dinner in the Dolly Varden Tea Rooms to celebrate their snccess during the 1932 season in wihning both the Saturday and the Wednesday championships. The members of the team took the opportunity to make a presentation to Miss Daisy Davies who has successfully captained the team for several years. Miss Davies suitably responded and all present joined in singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" and gave three hearty "Waratah" cheers. The girls wish to express their thanks to Mrs. H. S. Kingon, Mrs. F. Chambers, Messrs H. Langguth and 'G. W. Vanghan for the very enjoyabla evening provided Golf Charges Commeneing to-morrow, green fees will bo charged golfers using the Motutara Golf Course in the Government Gardens, the fees arranged by the Tourist Department being oue shilling for nine holes and eighteen pence for eighteen holes. During the past few months, rapid progress has been made by the department in the formation of the course, and it is anticipated that by utilising the revenne obtained from fees, inereased activity will he possible. During the past week, the roadway leading into tho links has been straighten'ed and re-formed while the recent rain has been very benefieial to the fairways and greens, Pererika Street Improvement A vast improvement in the appearance of what is one of the first glimpses of the town perCeiVed by visitors arriving by rail, is now being undertaken at Pererika Street hy the borougli council. The southern side of the roadway which was at one time overgrown with weeds, was reeently cleared and is to be utilised for a cyele trade while on the north'ern side the footpath is being relaid and provision made for garden plots. Spring Cleaning On Wednesday, the frog pond at the sides of the Malfroy Geysers in the Government Gardens 'was thoroughly cleared of the aeeumulation of dead leaves which had found their way into the pond during the winter months. Earthquake Fund A snccessful old time dance and 500 tournament, under the auspices of the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, was held at the Dixieland Ballroom on Wednesday evening, when the entertainment was provided to raise funds towards the assistance of the Wairoa earthquake sufferers. A large attendance was present and the fund benefitted to a considerahle extent. Motutara Golf Club Recommendations for the early commencement of competition matches, and reports of progress made hy the committee, will be presented at1 a speeial general meeting of members of the Motutara Golf Club to he held at the Bungalow this eVening. At this meeting members will also have an opportunity of discussing the annual ticket charges and privileges offered to club members by the Tourist Department and many other matters of vital interest to the club.
