(From
A meeting of the Whakatane Domain Board was held in the Borough Council chambers on Tuesday night, Mr. W. Brabant presiding. A deputation from the Bay of Plenty Sports Club sought permission to bank the ends of the cycle traek. Mr. Rand, secretary to the club, explained that for fast riding it was necessary in the interests of safety, to build up the track at the turns. The board were sympathetie toward the suggestion and Mr. Howat said that anything within reason should be done to encourage all sporting bodies to use the Domain. Mx*. Cartwright, a member of the deputation, stated that there was a large number of cycle riders in the district and he urged that their needs be catered for. Finally the board agreed to meet representatives from the sports club on the Domain at 5 p.m. on Friday to see what work was necessary. Aerodrome Mr. Howat gave as his opinion that Ewcr's Beach Domain on the eastern side was the potential site for an aerodrome. He suggested the clearing* and ploughing of the area, appealing* to the board to look to the future and make ready for the time when air traffic would be frequently calling at Whakatane. The site was ideal, he considered, as there were no power wires or other hindx*ances, and the run pax*allel with the river would provide a good takeoff. Mr. Howat said that he would seek the co-operation of the borough council in the matter.
