His Own Rates After the council's lorry driver had been granted his annual holidays, Cr. Hitchens suggested that as the lorry was getting old it would be better to sell it and buy a new one than to overhaul it. Ci\ Budd: Cr. Hitchens is not seriously suggesting this, is he your Worship? Cr. Budd then went on to say that he f elt sure that the council would also be glad to have any suggestion from Cr. Hitchens as to where the money might be raised. Cr. Hitchens to Cr. Budd : I not- , ice that you were not long in getting a new car when your old car began to rattle, doctor. Cr. Tabb: Yes, but Dr. Budd strikes his own rates, your Worship. Cr. Maine: Yes and he does not have to strike them annually. These Smokers A request was received from the Opotiki Women' s Institute that the council allow them to use the council chamber once a month for their meetings. Cr. Hitchens said that he for ono had no objection, provided that the ladies did not leave a quantity of cigarette butts, matches, etc, lying about like another committee which used the rooms. The request of the institute was granted.
