SUSSEX DOWNS
BEAUTIES TO BE PRESERYED. Steps ara to he taken to preserve the beauties of theSussex Downs in accordance with the recommendations in th'a report of the Brighton, Hove, and District Joint Town Planning Advisory Committee published lately. Local authorities in tha area have been invited to join in the formation of an executive town planning com- 1 mittee, which, under the new Town Planning Bill, will be able to make protecitve regulations. Its aims are to prohibit building above the 300ft contour line, thu$ preserving- 30,000 acres of Downland in its natural state; preserve woodlands, parks, and aneient monuments; control the appearance of roadside buildings; and prevent the- uss of vans, shacks, and railway carriages as human habitations.
