Freie Gift Scheme The winRers in last week's series of the "Morning Post's" free gift Scheme were MrS. Tyler, Mr. Brothcrs (Whaka Road) and Mrs. Garthton. Basketball Rep Games fhe Opotiki Basketball rep team will arrive in Rotorua this morning to play the Rotorua reps. In the evening they will be entertained at a specially arranged dance in the Majestic Ballroom. In view of the fact that only two points separated the teams last time they met, the game should he a good one and fast from start to finish. Broadcasting Rotorua To-night there will be a meeting' of those interested in radio transmission to form a committee to arrange hroadcasts of items froni Rotorua, and the meeting also suggests that a suhcommitiee be set up to co-operate with the Advance Rotorua movement. ! It is hoped that there will be a -good attendance at the Borough Chambers where the meeting will he held at 5 p.m.
St. John's Sale of Work The ladies of St, John's Presbyterian ChUrch will hold a sale of Work on Friday next, September 30. There will be a good display of clothing, fancy and utility articles, cakes, ilowers, produce, etc., together with' a riumber of popular competitions. The exhibition will he open both afternoon and evening. Referees Complain. The complaint of referees at the amount of time lost during the progress of Rughy matehes due to the failure of players to ascertain that the sprigs of their boots are in a sound condition, was reported at Monday evening's meeting of the Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union. The referees recommended that team managers should he required to inspect the players' boots bfefore the start of the game. Motiitara Golf Club In order to diseuss the fees decided upon by the Tourist Departmeiit for the use of the Government grounds golf course, a special general meeting of the Motutara Golf Club will he held at tbe Bungalow on Friday evening to decide the necessary steps for an earl'y commencement of competition matehes. To ensure that the club secure the reduction in fees offered by the department it is necessary that 50 annual ticket subseribers take advantage of the offer. In order that the club may he in a position to complete its arrangements for competitions, p'qyment of fees will be received at the general meeting. •A r r Yo-Yo Arrives As a result of the introduetion of a yo-yo into Ngongotaha by an enthusiastic exponent of the latest American craze, tiie intricacies of the game have taben several of the most prominent residents by storm and considerahle success has followed many of the players' efforts. The game entails the enticing of tbe yo-yo to the top of a length of cord and natu'rally requires considerable patience. A "surprising competitive spirit followed its introduetion to Christchurch recently and it is stated that in America its appaal has stricken everyone from the schoolboy to th'e President, who spend all their spare moments in perfecting their game.
New Incinerator The remodelling of the refuse incinerator at Ohinemutu has now been completed hy the Rotorua Borough Council and it will again be in use in a few days. The incinerator has been built on the regenerative principle similar to that at Whakarewarewa and now has a much greater capacity than previously. Plans Altered As a result of inquiries made abroad the original plans providing for 12 submerged lights in the new main Blue Bath have been altered and the numher increased to 20. This has necessitated the provision of extra spaces in the sides of the bath and yesterday small charges of gelignite and a Compressed air drill were utilised to seperate the concreting from the reinforcing of the walls of the bath. Junior Rugby Reps The Rotorua junior representative team to meet the Kahukura Club on Saturday will he: — Herewini, Steele, Matthews, Cottrell, N. Hinton, T. Berghan, Dawson, Hiini, Taiapa, Hulton, Hiini, Matthews, McRae, O'Reilly. Campbell. Park and P. Berghan were not available for selection. The team is requested to assemble for training practice at thh Government Grounds at 7 o'clock this evening.
