WELLINGTON MAN ESCAPES FROM BURNING HOME

Wellington, Monday. Wakened in the early hours by his Alsatian dog barking and knocking against the window, Mr. A. Birkett, land agent, of Eastbourne, found his house, which was situated on the main road, on fire. The house and contents were conxpletely destroyed. • Mr. Birkett made a quick escape from the burning building, and was unable to save anything. He threw a pair of shoes out of a bedroom window, but these wex^e later burned on "tlxe ground outside.
