Road to be Closed So that the new bridge aeross the Mangaharakeke Stream can be constructed the Public Works Department has had to close the Qngaroto Road temporarily. It is expected that it will be closed for about three weeks. Unannounced Holiday Unheralded and unsung, the banks and other public offices in Rotorua celebrated a public holiday. This was not appreciated by several business men and farmers who only discovered the fact when they visited the premises in order to endeavour to transact business. Apparently the only announcement of the fact was the posting of notices on the doors of the respective premises. Dairy Produce Output Chiefly due to the marked increase in the number of dairy herds in the district, the output of the Ngongotaha Dairy Faetory has shown a most encouraging increase and for the week ending Septemb.er 24, was approximately 16cwt a day greater than the output over the corresponding period of last year. The recent rains have had a most beneficial effect upon the pastures and an excellent dairying season is anticipated.
Truck versus Car A motor car driven by Mr. T. And'erson, of Ruatahuna collided with a six-wheeler truck owned by Goodson's j Ltd., and driven hy Mr. L. Dornbush, I at a bend of the road three miles from J Te Whaiti during the week-end. The only damage caused to the motor-car was a broken headlamp while the truck sustained a hrolcen spring, stub axle and a crushed mudguard. Referoe Joins In The confusion which is caused when a ref'erea wears a similar jursey to that of the players was mentioned at last night's meeting of the Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union. It was stated that during the match at the Arawa Park last Saturday the referee was presanted with a pass by the Rotorua team and was promptly tackled by the visitors. Hike Postponed The unfavourable weather conditions caused a postponement to the mystery hike an-anged hy the Rotorua Bus Company last Sunday. Providing t]ie weather is suitable the hike will he
held next Sunday. Farmers' Relieved. The concern of farmers owing to the effect which the prolonged dry spell was having on pastures was somewhat relieved during the week end when rain began to fall. At 9 a.m. on Sunday morning .23 ins were recorded while the heavier falls of Sunday evening registered another .31 ins, a total of over half an inch. Limonite Treatment Reporting to the Te Puke branch of the Farmers' Union on last Saturday evening Mr. Gill stated that he had discussed the limonite lick for cattle with Mr. Taylor, of the Agricultural Department, Rotorua. The lick had been used on eertain properties ,in the Te Puke district, and "a wonderful improvement had resulted." f
