THE WEATHER
The Government meteorolopist issued the following weather report and forecast last night: — General situation: A fairly deep cyclonic depressio'n is centred in the Northern Tasman Sea; a nioderate cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong between easterly and northerly, rising at times to gale force in the far north. Weather: Qloudy and overcast generally with mist or fog i'n piaces, general rain from Nelson, Marlborough northward, with many heavy falls; elsewhere scattered; temperatures mild. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Depart- . ment for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Barometer 29.902ins. Thermometer (max.) 50.0deg, Thermometer (min.) 43.6deg. Thermometer (min. o'n grass) 40.0deg, Rainfall 0.31 ins. Bright Sunshine Nil
