THE CONVERSATION DANCE
NEW EXERCISES FOR COUPLES. A quiek tongue, even more than a lig'ht stepr is needful for success in the latest New Yorlc danee, and young m'3n and girls meet a fresh test of popularity in the "Conversational Dance," now sweeping through England. First the couple dance a little, then they walk and • talk, and if both become engrossed in some light topic such as love, the two partners may halt awhile. Preparatory to introducing the conversational dance to a wider public, ; a dancing teachers' congress was held in New York from where it was proposed to inti'oduce to Americans ;a sql'ies of exercises designed to enable i couples to weave their way dexterouslyVon a crowded floor. These eonsist of balancing exercises^ which give the learner such control pf himself that no matter how srnall the space in which he and his partner move,.the young man retains complete command in a difilcult situation. To supervise these exetcsies seve- i ral English., teachers arriyed for the j congress. -Miss Lucille Stoddart, who ! presided at .the congrqss, said that the technique of the English on a dance floor was wonderful. All over Great Britain people danced alike. Their st^ps varied but their bodily poise was the same.
