Graphic pictures of the earthquake damage at Wairoa and Gisborne are contained in the current issue of the "New Zealand Free Lance." Four pages of pictures clearly show the extent of the damage to buildings, plate glass windows, chimneys, household furniture and stock. The double picture page illustrates the rapid progress of the reconstruction of Napier which is indicative of the town's confidence in the future. The arrival at Wellington of the Ottawa delegation and the Australian criclcet team by the Monowai, is also prominently featured in this issue. Among other subjects are the departure from Auckland of the yacht Beth on her 4000mile voyage to Adelaide, baby show at Wellington, improvements to the entrance to Otago Harbour, diamond jubilee of the consolidated Oxford schools, and Lily Copplestone's unsuccessful channel swim.
