One taking the Six Lakes Trip should not miss tbe labyrinth of. multi-coloured pools of water and I mud with varying levels and degrees ! of thermal activity at Tikitere. It is practically speaking, the Playground ' of Man's Arch-eneiny, for here are ' revealed his manifold moods of energetic turbulence, rage and violence in marked contrast to his moods of I placid innoncence and tranquility as j evidenced by pools of mud and water contiguous to each other. One enters the Playground through j Hell's Gate where under the guidance ' of "The Captain," (Late Chief Guide at Wairakei), one sees the Devil's Cauldron, The Sulphur Bath, The j Inferno, The Devil's Frying Pan, ' Satan's Porridge Pot, alongside of ! which one has a glimpse of the I Garden of Eden with the Ladies' Pool, separated from it by Satan's Glory, Satan's Boiling Kettle and of His Trough of Dough. The tremendous forces underI ground are so powerful as to cause the Earth to tremble and vibrate and ' even huge masses of molten rocks to oseillate, seemingly imbued with rage and resentment at being so rudely disturbed. Indications of a heavy bush overwhelmed in prehistoric times are seen in abundance.
