THEATRE SENSATION
ITALIAN SINGER ATTACKS FORMER FIANCEE AND COMPANION. j There was a femarkable scene in a suburban theatre in Rome recently when a tenor singing a dramatic aria describing the pangs of despised love suddenly discovered among the audience his former fiancee, who had deserted him for the superior charms of a chauffeur, who was at her side. Without interrupting his song the vocalist strode down the steps leading from the stage to the auditorium, and, still singing, made his way to the seats where the pair were seated, and then proceeded to pommel them. The audience, unaware that they were withessing the sequel to a personal tragedy, though that the singer was merely introducing some realism to illustrate the song. It was only when the conductor dropped his baton and the orchestral accompaniment died down and a couple of policemen hurried to the rescue of the screaming girl and her companion that it became apparent that something was really amiss. The trio was conveyed to the police station, where a statement was taken from the passionate tenor, who was not detained. The girl_and the chauffeur had to visit a hospital for medical treatment.
