JOSEPH R. TE
KIRI.
(To the Editor) . Sir, — I have noticed in your columns a number of letters on the above subjeet, and apparently there is a strong feeling that our member should be appointed a Minister. This is a very good idea and suitable for a town like Rotorua. There. seems, however, to be some difference of opinion amongst your correspondents as to what would be a suitable. portfolio for our member to hold, but I think all your readers will agree that the portfolio of Native Affairs combined with that of Internal Affairs would be the most suitable. The Honourable Sir Apirana Ngata indicated at the last election his desire to retire from active Ministe.rial service,
and I would suggest that Mr. Clinkard should take his place. In regard to native affairs, there is one important matter exercising the minds of my race and that is the affairs of the Arawa Trust Board. As you know this board handles the large sum of £6000 per anpum, and as T have observed that Mr. Clinkard is a member of the Public Accounts Committee in the House, he would be a suitable Minister to handle these. affairs together with other boards controlling large sums of mone-y for my race. I venture to say that we are ripe for a change all round in the matter of governing the country, but if such change were to take place, it is to be hoped that our member, Mr. Clinkard, will not be overlooked in the selection of a Miqistry. — Yours, etc.
Rotorua, 21/9/32.
