FURTHER TROUBLE WITH HEADRACE AT ARAPUNI
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Hamilton, Wednesday. More trouble has been experienced at Arapuni in the headrace. Owing to another leak, which was discovered yesterday, it was necessary to open the diversion tunnel last evening and lower the level of the lake. This morning a diver was sent down. in the headrace and the leak was stopped. It is expected that the water in the dam will be raised again this evening. Mr. T. Rabone, engineer in charge at Arapuni, said this morning that a small leak had occurred adjacent to the coffer dam in the headrace. He said that the coffer dam had not been built to eover the whole of the area previously affected. Last evening the water in the dam was lowered about 18in to reduce the velocity in the headrace, but he believed they would be able ta restore the le.vel now that the trouble had been dealt with.
