"At a time when we in New Zealand are p-utting men on the land as fast as we can — which is nct very fast — the world is cursed by a superfluity of farmers and agricultural over-production," remarked Professor Murphy, speaking in Napier. He illustrated his contention by quoting the drop in prices for many primary products, including wool, which, he said, was doomed as useless unless other uses could be found for it following the condition which the demand for it had reached when it had become outed by artifieial silk.
