INTERESTING ADDRESS DELIVERED BY MISS SPENCER

On Monday evening in the Farmers' j Social Rooms, Miss J. Spencer, of Napier, addressed the various Women's | Institutes in Opotiki. Members of I the Woodlands and Waiotahi branch'es were present. Miss Spencer gave a brief outline | of the history ofFthe movement and j then went on to explain the methods j of working. Iln mentioning the growth of the movement, Miss Spencer said that there were now over 470 institutes in New Zealand and over 20,000 members, whiie a Dominion Federation of all the institutes had just been formed. At the conclusion of the address, Mrs. P. Mulhern, on behalf of the Woodlands branch, and Mrs. Looney, on behalf of the Waiotahi branch, moved a vote of thanks to the speaker. During the evening, Miss M. MeLeod sang two well-known solo numbers, "Carry Me Back to Old Virginy" ! and "Absent." Miss Spencer held a final meeting on Tuesday morning and left the same day for Whakatane.
