NEW TRAMPING CLUB
ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING APPROVES THE PROPOSAL PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE Tho proposal to form a tramping club in Rotorua was enthusiastically endorsed by a large attendance of . c-sidents present at a meeting at the "Vlajestic Ballroom last evening. Apologising for the unavoidable tbseneo of his co-convenor, Mr. M. H. Hampson, Mr. T. P. Carvill called for aominations for a chairman and, on the motion of Mr. II. W. Beale, Mr. L. I. Plimmer was eleeted. As one 01 the convenors, Mr. Carvill state d that other centres of population had their tramping clubs and said that he considered that the formation of such a club in Rotorua would be an acquisition to the town and would command considerable support. He contended that the outlying districts of Rotorua were ideal for tramping, its lake scenery, bush and hills providing all the conditions necessary for enjoyable tramps. In supporting- the views expressed by Mr. Carvill, tbe chairman, who ;.as had considerable tramping experienco in Australia and New Zealand, said that if the club was formed, it should eventually secure a high
status in the community as it would be tlie means of opening up land which was little known to the general public and its members would be considered experts in tbe knowledge of these parts.. At the conclusion of these ,addresses it was unanimously decided, on the motion of Mr. A. C. Mason to form a tramping club to be called "The Rotorua Tramping Club." In order that a constitution might bo drawn up for the new club a provisional committee was eleeted to draft proposals and report hack to a general meeting of members. The following were eleeted. Messrs M. H. Hampson, H. W. Beale, W. Pakes Jnr., W. Dean, A. C. Mason, T. P. Carvill, L. I. Plimmer, Mrs. A. C. Mason and Miss K. Carnaehan. Mr. T. P. Carvill was eleeted as secretary pro tem. The following recommendation for the considerations of the-. committee were approved by those present. (a) That an entrance fee of 2/6 and a subscription of not more than 5/- be decided upon, (b) that the minimum age for membership be 17 years; (c) that the officers of the club be confined to members, (d) that tbe committee decide tbe advisability of arranging a series of A and B grade tramps according to physical fitness, (o) that it be understood that members engaging in prolonged tramps be properly equipped. At the conclusion of the meeting it was decided that the next general meeting be held in two weeks, ;the date, venue and time to be advertised in the "Morning Post" on September 30.
