MOTOR BOAT SPEED

GAR WOOD ATTAINS OVER 126 MILES AN HOUR New York, Sept. 19. A message from Aloonac (Michigan) states that after warming up along a mile straightway at 126.09 miles an hour, Gar Wood on Monday postponed until Tuesday his attempt to set the world's record on the St. Clair River with Miss America X., as motor trouble developed. Gar Wood made three warming-up dashes, one of which was clocked officially at the foregoing figures. He then discovered a broken ring in one of the gear-hoxes, which caused the

shaft to heat.
