IN THE BAHAMAS nEAVY TOLL OF LIFE AND PROPERTY TAKEN SITUATION IN HAND

Rec. Sept. 20, 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Sept. 19. The Secretary for Colonies, has received a message from the Governor of the Bahamas reporting that a' hurricane swept the colony on September 5. High winds were experienced over a wide area. Buildings on the Acapi Islands were demolished, and Lost Point and two other settlements were practically ruined. The casualties are 14, including five drowned by a tidal wave, and between 60 and 70 were injured. The position is well in hand. The Government and private buildings suffered severe damage.
