MAJESTIC
TO-DAY AND TO-NIGHT "Delicious," which' opened last night at the Majestic Theatre', is a typical Gaynor-Farrell picture in its delightful whimsicality and spontaneous humour, as it tells a charming tale of a little Scotch immigrant and a ehampion polo player. Janet, refused entry to the country and ordered to be deported, escapes-to the shore crated with a polo pony that belongs to Farrell. Pursued by a persistent, but not partieularly perspdcacious detective, she disguises herself as a Russian dancer, and leads him a merry chase in general. Rather than a 'triangle, the love I story in this film has four angles to ! it. Miss Gaynor and Farrell, thougli they do not recognise it at first, are smitten from the start. Left to themselves, they would soon diagnose the delightful malady. But a scheming mother crowds Farrell into announceing his engagement to her daughter, and Janet is taken off her feet hy a Russian musician who find his inspiration in her. Though the story open in a delightfully whimsical dream sequenee, in which Miss Gaynor pictures her welcome to America, it'is not long before it develops into a veritahle nightmare of amorous cross-purpos'es. Miss Gaynor, as the thrifty little lass from Scotland, has a part that she seems to have grown right into. And there is little wonder that Charles Farrell, as the ehampion polo player, causes her heart to flutter. E1 Brenuel, as a social-climbing servant, is anything but a helpful asset to the blues. Other important members of the cast include Lawrence O'Sullivan, Raul Roulien and Manya Roberti. One unusual feature of "Delicious" is its use of music as an integral, but subordinate element in the telling of its story. While not a "musical," in the sense of those of the early days of talkies, it does have some new and delightful songs that serve a real purpose and have a real reason for being.
