DEALER PLATES ON SUNDAY
The official journal of the motor traders of the Dominion has a reference to a case in which a motor salesman was charged with using dealer plates on a car on Sunday. "The charge," it says, "was laid under the Motor Vehicles Act, and, in onr opinion, the magistrate rightly decided that there was no breach of this Act by the use of dealers' plates because they were used on a Sunday. "In reading the report motor traders may he led to infer that this decision means that the use of dealers' plates on a car used for demonstration purposes on a Sunday is not illegal, and if so may have a rude awakening. In this case the defendant pleaded that he was using the car with the dealer plates to show to a prospective client, a use which is quite legal under tbe Motor Vehicles Act. • The Court has decided, however, that it is illegal to sell or endeavour to sell cars on a Sunday, and if the charge had been laid under the Police Oifenees Act for Sunday trading he must hava been convicted on 'he defence raised. The only solution to the dealers' plates difficulty is an amendment to the Act, which it is hoped may be accomplished next session of Parliament."
