Ngongotaha Mountain
From the summit of Ngongotaha a superb panoramic view of the Thermal Regions is obtained. Comprehended in a single glance is a bewildering diversity of sights and objects. Far out to sea in a N.E. direction White Island is clearly distinguished ; to the S.E. the summits of Ruapohu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe j rise in sharp outline against the slcy; j and between these two extremes lie , a network of lakes, wide stretches of | primeval bush, extensive forest areas, i and mountain peaks. Visitors to the ' Ngongotaha summit are thrilled by the magnificent prospect that opens out to the North, South, East and West; but clear weather and good ; visibility are essential to a full en- j joyment of this popular half-day journey.
