More Meat Consumed.

Whether it is the drop in prices of stock or whether Rotorua is becoming a meat-eating community is not known, but the figures from the municipal abattoir for 1931-32 are rather interesting and instructive. In 1931 there were slaughtered 916 bullocks, compared with 857 this year, 703 cows, compared with 959, 100 calves (83), sheep and lambs, 7192 (9848). But it is in p-ig killings that the eomparison is most striking; in 1931, 991 were slaughtered and this year 1128. The totals of all stock show an increase of 2973. head, the respective figur-es being 9902 for 1931, and 12,875 for 1932. Probably this is due to the increasing settlement as well as to greater tourist traffic.
