i From the summit of Ngongotaha a superb panoramic view of the Thermal Regions is obtained. Comprehended in a single glance is a bewildering diversity of sights and objeets. Far out to sea in a N.E. direction White Island is clearly distin- i guished; to the S.E. the summits of j j Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe j | rise in sharp outline against the sky; j and between these two extremes lie j a networlc of lakes, wide stretches of j primeval bush, extensive forest areas, j and mountain pealcs. Visitors to the j I Ngongotaha summit are thrilled by ; the magnificent prospect that opens ' out to the North, South, East and f Wcst; but clear weather and good ; visibility are essential to a full enjoyment of this popular half-day j ourney.
