WONDERFUL WOMAN
HOW SHE PLAYS HER PART IN LIFE'S DRAMA London, Aug 3. True stories of how woman plays her part in the drama of everyday life are related by Reuter's corresponde.nts from the various parts of the world. Colombo. — A Cingalese woman, longing to win back her husband's affection, consulted a friend on the subject of love potions. As a resnlt of the consulation, the yearning wife put powdered glass in her husband's tea. Violent vomiting probably saved the man's life, but there is no sign yet that his feelings are in any way more loving towards his wife. Sydney. — Two women have walked from Adelaide to Sydney — over 800 miles — in 36 days. They are Miss Solveig Borg, a Finn, and Miss Dawn Krummell, an Adelaide girl. In addition to her "hiking" abilities, Miss Bofg speaks seven languages, including English'. Her fluent English was acquired on the voyage out to Australia from Finland last September. The Loyal Wife Berlin. — Frau Olga Pahi is the wife of a forger who has just been caught putting spurious banknotes into circulation. He used his bedroom as his workshop and always worked during the night while the wireless broadcast dance tunes full blast, so drowning the noise of his forging outfit. Whenever the music faded, Frau Olga would declaim poetry at the top of her voice. Madras. — On her wedding eve, Kanaka Durgama, a Hindu girl aged 16, left her p^arents' house, built a pyre, lit it and threw herself on the flames. She was burned to death. At the inquest it was revealed that Kanaka had told her family that she was "divine," and could not accept no mortal hand in marriage. Adelaide. — A woman convicted of shoplifting gave her bond that she would not enter any shop for the next three years. The magistrate, in aceepting this condition, has made legal history — in South Australia at any rate.
