VOGUE FOR SANDALS
Due possibly to the influence of the Olympie Games in turning public at- . tention to things of classical antiquity, j a vogue for sandals has made its apI pearance among Southern Californian I women, and promises to assume important proportions in the footwear trade before the summer is over. Yarious styles and types of these sandals are on sale in the Los Angeles 'shoej shops and the women's departments of the larger general merchandise stores ai.d manufacturers are said to he planning others. The sandals have made their appearance mostly with sport costumes, although a modified type also is worn with afternoon dress. The sandal vogue brought with it the problem of how to avoid a display of the displeasing reinforcing lina visible in hosiery along the sides of the foot. This has been solved by using a decorative reinforcing pattern. It is thought possible that the popularity of sandals will be permanent in view of the fact that the mild Southern Californian climate makes their use possible during the greater part of the year.
