PICKPOCKETS

TERRIFIC FIGHT WITH POLICE IN MOTOR CAR. Sydney, Monday. An expert gang of pickpockets, which had been hunted from the racecourses, commenced operations in city hotels yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Sedgwick and Detectives Gilbert and P. Chuck watched the hotels during the afternoon, and kept the pickpockets constantly on the move. Cruising in a car along Radle St., they saw two men robbing a man, who was evidently drunk. When they saw the police they bolted. Fight in Taxi. The police gave chase on foot, hut the two men boarded a taxi-cab, which, however, was forced into the kerb by the police car. A terrific fight in the taxi ensued, and utlimately the men were overpowered. Meanwhile the victim of the theft had disapp.eared. Police think his name is Morris, and if he calls at Rebent Street police station and proves his identity be may recover a £5 note, which was taken by the men.
