Ngongotaha Mountain
From the summit of Ngongotaha a superb panoramic view of the Thermal Regions is obtained. Comprehended in a single glance is a bewildering diversity of sights and objects. Far out to sea in a N.E. direction White Island is clearly distinj guished ; to the S.E. the summits of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe rise in sharp outline against the sky; and between these two extremes lie a network of lakes, wide stretches of primeval bush, extensive forest areas, I and mountain peaks. Visitors to the Ngongotaha summit are thrilled by the magnificent prospect that opens out to the North, South, East and West; but clear weather and good visibility are essential to a full enjoyment of this popular half-day journey.
