Orphans' Final Night With the president (Bro. J. M. Roberts) in the chair, the Rotorua Orphans' Club will hold th'eir final session for the season on Thursday evening. An excellent prograrirme is prbhiised. Burglary at Mamaku A good haul was made by a thief who broke into a residence at Mamaku on Monday, a sum of £14 being stolen. The matter has been reported to the police who are investigating. PoInt-to-Point License Mi\ C. H. Clinkard, M.P., has reeeived a telegram from the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Adam Hamilton) , advising that a license has been granted the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Ciub to conduct a point-to-point steeplechase meeting, on Wednesday, September 21. Getting Ready for Season • - Some of the launch owners whpse craft are drawn up on the water front of Lake Rotorua, at the bottpm of Tutanekai Street, are commencing to work on their boats in preparation for the coming season. PoIIed Angus Heifers A very fine and level line of Polled Angus heifers passed through Rotorua on their way south yesterday morning at an early hour. They were a particularly level lot and were in the pink of condition. Presentation at Sanatorium The patients and staff of the Government Sanatorium gathered together yesterday to bid farewell to Miss J. Rennett who has been a member ,of the staff for the past seven years. On ibehalf of the patients, Mr. Morton present'ed Miss Rennett with a clock and expressed their regret at her departure. She was also the recipient of gifts from members of the staff. Traffic Interrupted The stationmaster at Rotorua, Mr. W. Thompson, advised yesterday that due to a subsidence of the railway track between Kopua and Ormondville on the Napier line, he has reeeived instructions that until repairs are" effeeted railway tickets cannot be issued for stations north of Kopua. Kuirau Reserve Although lack of finance has considerably delayed the work, good progress is being made with the laying out of the Kuirau reserve in accordance with' the plan adopted some time ago. Numerous garden plots are already completed and planted with shrubs while the paths Ieading from Ranolf Street to the miniature lake have also been formed and gravelled. Women's Club Funds At the Dixi eland Hall on Friday, October 14, the Rotorua Women's Club will hold a dance and 500 tournament to augment its funds for the relief of distress. The Wonderland Band will supply the music for the dancing and good prizes will be provided for tho winning card players. Cases Adjourned A number of cases in which the Rotorua Borough Council was proceeding against property owners for half the cost of the formation of f ootpaths was adjourned by the Magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., who said that he had not, so far, had the necessary time to go sufficiently into the legal aspect, but hoped to bring down his reserved judgment shortly. Golfers.
