THE WEATHER
The Government meteorolojiist issued the following weather report and forecast last nijht: — General Situation: An intense anticyclone still covers New Zealand, but is passing to the eastward while a cyclone is apparently crossing the North Tasman Sea and a westerly depression lies to the south. Forecast: Winds, Tiortherlies preIvailing south of Westport and Kaikoura, otherwise south-easterly to north-easterly, moderate to strong in force. Weather: For the mogt part fair to fine with milder tfemperatures, but clouding over in the western and far northern districts, where scattered showers are likely. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings- recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Barometer 30.409ins. Thermometer (max.) 59.6deg. Thermometer (min.) 33.0deg. Thermometer (min. on grass) 20.1deg. Rainfall .... Nil Bright Sunshine 10.7hrs.
