SETTLEMENT POSSIBLE FOLLOWING GOVT. INTERVENTION

Wellington Monday. Points in connection with the proposal put forward by the Mines Department for a new agreement with tho Miners' Union were discussed at a conference. It is believed that as a result of the discussion, an amieable agreement will be reached. In the ordinary course of events, the department's proposals would become operative to-day, but the Iion. C. E. MacMillan, Minister of Mines, has agreed to the continuation of the old working conditions for a further week, pending representations from Lhe union. The conference, which was private, lasted nearly two hours. It was subsequently stated that the Minister had undertaken to consider the union's representations and ^ive a reply when he reached a deeision.
