ROBBERY DE LUXE
(Press. Assn.-
A MILLION DOLLAR HAUL
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Rec. Sep. 5, 7.45 p.m. Chicago, Sept. 4. One of the most sensational and most lucrative crimes of recent years occurred during the week. A group of expert safe-openers tunnelled into the vault room of Koch and Company and escaped with 1,000,000 dollars, after holding two families prisoner in an adjoining house for over 14 hours on Saturday night, on the pretext that they were officers. The rohbers entered an adjoining house and then casually brought in acetylene torches and other equipment, boring through the walls to the vault roorn, and there, using the company's index as a guide, systematically looted some 350 safe deposit hoxes, taking only cash and ignoring securities and jewellery, which they threw carelessly about. Owing to the number of bank failures some time ago, the residents of the vicinity utilised the boxes.
