Off The Track _ Apparently unaware that their action was in any way unusual and the cause of considerable consternation to shopkepeers and passers-hy, two women in riding clothes unconcernedly led a hox^ss lalong the footpath in Tutanekai Street yesterday afternoon. Main Highway Improvements Unemployed labonr is being utilised to some good purpose on the Ro-torua-Hamilton main highway some seven miles out from the town where gangs are engaged in improving the corners this side of the Tarukenga railway crossing. This is an ex- | ample of soundly utilised labour. Most of the animals were of the black Jersey type and are particularly dangerous at night time.
The Return. of The Horse An unusual sight these days of motordom was seen on Sunday on the Mamaku Road when a mob of about 80 draught horses, ranging from foals to foux*-year-olds, in charge of three drovers was met. The mob, most of them unbroken, are en route for the Waikato where there is a very definite demand for draught horses, from Gisborne. The mob looked quite fresh and had settled down to steady travelling, having become quite roadwise. The drovers said that there were two further mohs to come through shortly. Chance for the A. & P. Society A sug-gestion made hy Dr. H. Bertram at the Rotary Cluh luncheon yesterday as to tlie advisability of estahlishing a central bureau in Rotorua where visitors and residents could see for themselves the varied products which the district is capahle of producing might well have some interest for the Rotorua Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Dr. Bertram pointed out that whereas every centre in the United States had its hui'eau to display its local products, there was none in Rotorua, a place in which tourists were apt to overlook all but the scenic wonders, and to remain in ignorance of the remarkable fertility of the soil.
