Ngongotaha Mountain
From the summit of Ngongotaha a superb panoramic view of the Thermal Regions is obtained. Comprehended in a single glance is a bewildering diversity of sights and objects. Far out to sea in a N.E. direction White Island is clearly distinguished; to the S.E. the- summits . of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe rise in sharp outline against the slcy; and between these two extremes lie a. network of lakes, wide stretches of primeval bush, extensive forest areas, ! and mountain peaks. Visitors to the ' Ngongotaha summit are thrilled by the magnificent prospect that opens 1 out to the North, South, East and j West; but clear weather and good j visibility are essential to a full en- j joyment of this popular half-day j journey. |
