WOMAN ATTACKED
MEN LOOK ON DURING A COWARDLY ASSAULT Sydney, Saturday. While a man bashed a woman's head against the wall of a house in Woolloomooloo yesterday, a score of men looked on, and made no attempt to help her. Police were informed that Vera Nicholls, 35, of Cathedral Street, was in a house, when a man grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly bashed her head against the wall, until the scalp burst and bled freely. Her appeals to some men for help were unavailing. After her attacker had flung her to the floor, she staggered to a telephone and called the police. Sergeant Smith and Constable Fisherj after a search, found a man in a wine saloon, and he was taken to Darlinghurst Police Station, where he was charged with assault.
