KEEN PLAY IN INTER-TRIBAL TRY-OUT KAHUKURA JUNIORS AGAIN The crowd at Arawa Park on Saturday was much smaller than usual, but some good play was witnessed, fcspecially in the seniok match. In tlie semi-final of the Kozie Shield, Kahukura juniors had no trouble in disposing of Waikite. Play was interesting enough until Kahukura had ; a lead of several points. Then Waikite threw in the sponge, and in the last quarter of an hour, the game was a mere farce, Kahukura doing exactly what they liked. If Waikite had been fit and had had the will to win, it might have been a different story. It is fortunate for junior football that Waikite, or any other team, did not display the same poor spirit in club matches. The final score was : Kahukura 29, Waikite 0. Possibles v. Probables In the Arawa Tribal Club's Possibles v. Probables match, there was a very bright display by both sides, and with the addition of the players from Opotiki and Rangitaiki who participated, the selectors have some excellent material to work on. A closely-contested game resulted in a win for the Possibles by six (two penalties) to five (a converted try). The standard of play was weak in one way, as there were dropped passes in abundance, and both back lines tended to run across field far too much, but it was a clean, fast, open contest with both sides putting in their best in true Rugby spirit. Play was opened up at every opportunity, and although penalties were numerous, there was no rough play. The Probables • (white) showed much more cohesion in the baclis than their opponents, running straight and handling cleanly. The Possibles' (black and white) backs showed a weakness in the five-eighths, their three-quarters seeing little of the ball. T. Morrison was not at home as fiveeighths and should have been on the wing. For the Possibles, Scott, Leonard and Allen were outstanding- in thc forwards, while Thompson and T Morrison did best in the baeks. Waerea had few opportunities, while Steele (fullback) was playing out of his usual position, nevertheless he played creditably. For the Whites, . Heke, Taiapa and Hulton were always in the picture in the pack, while Rogers, Campbell and Kingi were the pick of a strong back line.
