KNITTING BOOM
FACTORIES WORK AT TOP PRESSURE TO SUPPLY DEMAND. London, August 19. Tlie biggest knitting boom since the war has resulted in an enormous demand for all lcinds of wool, says the Daily Mail. Knitting needle factories are working at top pressure, and women are knitting in every spare moment. Simplified fashions and the production of more delicate and attractive yarns have enabled women to make themselves many fashionable garments, including woollen necklaces, bracelets, jumpers, caps, scarves to match bathing suits, and tennis socks. The seasida resorts are crowded with knitters, and clinking- needles can be heard on every train and bus. The manager of a West End store attributes th's revival of knitting to the feashionable knit'ej caps now worn. The modern girl, he says, is I as clever a knitter as was her grandmother. i
