SCIENTISTS PLEASED

TREMENDOUS POSSIBILITIES REVEALED BY EXPERTS' OBSERVATIONS EXPECTATIONS EXCEED-ED

-By Telegraph — Copjrlghtl.

Quebiec, September 2. Astonishingly sucoessful results rewarded the band of scientists who studied the eclipse at Actionvale, Quebec, on Wednesday. After working uncaasingly for many hours on comhined computations of their totality data it was announced to-day that the results were far beyond expectations. The nucleus of the expedition was composed of members of the Royal Astronomical Society, Hamilton (Ontario) branch'. For three days the obsarvers glumly faced the prospect of a clouded eclipse. The clouds, however, parted ten minutes before the scheduled time, perfect visibility returning. Twelve phenomenally clear plates, recording totality, were exhibited by General R. B. March when he stepped from the dark-room whei*e he had worked alone at the d'elicate developing process. His confreres believe that these plates are possibly the only perfect record obtained in North America. Equally sensational, and of possible scientific portent, was the chrometic measurement of the totality duration at lmin 30sec, 12sec less than the McGill University and Ottawa astronomsrs had predicted for that locality, and beginning one second later than the astronomical experts dietated. This, the astronomers intimated, might mean moon motions not yet accounted for. The observation of the corona streamers on the left showed a distinct curvature of their arms. Possibly this diseovery is of importance.
