VALUABLE INVENTION IS SUCCESSFULLY TESTED
-By Telegraph— Copyright)
Sydney, August 31. A diving suit invented by two Australians it is claimed, will revolutionise diving practice. The apparatus was suceessfully tested in Sydney harbour by a diver, Mr. H. R. Locke, in the presence of scientists, engineers, medical men, and shipping representatives. Locke descended 165 feet and remained at the bottom for an hour. He ascended to the surface in about three minutes. The diver also broadcast a talk from the harbour bed. A feature of the invention is that the diver is able, with safety, to remain below much longer at great depths, and then ascend much more rapidiy than a diver using the standard diving dress. More over, the new apparatus is more mobile. The diver is even able to breathe for 15 minutes in the event of the airline being severed. He can also manipulate valves in the helmet keeping the air at normal pressure.
