CONGRATULATIONS TO O.M.P. FROM GOVERNING BODY

Those present at the Rugby Union Management Committee meeting on Monday. evening, were: — Messrs. W. Burrett (chairman), E. Webb, S. Jephson- J. Edwards, G. Shalfoon, C. Morris and C. Simmons (secretary). Advice was received that Galatea would definitely meet Opotiki on Saturday next to play for the Huru-nui-Apanui Shield. O.M.P. • were declared winners of the De Luxe Cup as a result of the match on Saturday, and the chairman remarked that he thought the team should be congratulated as they had also won the senior banner competition. Mr. Edwards suggested that the committee might show their appreciation by presenting the members of both the O.M.P. teams with badges. He reminded the committee that O.M.P. held four trophies, as the juniors had won the Mclntosh Shield and the Junior Cup competition; he believed that this constituted a record in the annals of Opotiki club football. Mr. Shalfoon suggested that the O.M.P. team should be sent to Tauranga to play for the Shalfoon Shield. Mr. Edwards said that, if it were possible the O.M.P. team would like to send a challenge through the union. After a short discussion it was decided to send a challenge to Tauranga for the Shalfoon Shield, the selectors to piclc the team. Mr. Edwards advised that owing to the arrangements for next Saturday O.M.P. would probably not be able to arrange a meeting with the Maori team from Gisborne as had been proposed. Arrangements For Saturday It was decided that if the Tau- • ranga Athletic Club was unable to play on Saturday as a curtain-raiser j to the big rnatch, efforts should be : made to get the Waimana team to play. Mr. Morris said that several farmers had asked if it would not be possible for the match to be started before 2.45 p.m. on Saturday. It was pointed out that this was the time set down in the rules for the commencement of the match, but it was decided that an effort should be made to get permission to start the match earlier. Mr. Webb and Mr. Simmons were appointed managers for Saturday, and it was decided that the chairman should ask the business people to supporfc the match by closing their pre- | mises during the afternoon. It was decided to suspend this player for the remainder of the season.
