Sydney, August 30. The Federal Government's statement declares: "The Ottawa Con- ' ference has given a lead, not only i in Empire co-operation. but also in | world recovery. It is a very real im- | provement in the position that form- j erly obtained to have ensured that existing preferences under the British Import Duties Act will be confirmed and secured. These duties were imposed as an emergency measure, and would have lapsed in November if any agreement had not been reached at Ottawa."
