Relief Workers' Subocriptloh List Subseriptions are coming in very slowly to the Relief Workers' Subscription List, and perhaps it is necessary to bring this once more before the public. The fund is to provide groceries and other necessities of life for necessitons cases. The fund is administered hy the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association, a hody which within its limited means, is doing a great deal of good. Subseriptions may be left at the office of the "Morning Post." High School Board The monthly meeting of the Rotorua High School Board was held last evening. There were present:-— Messrs. R, B. Nesbitt (chairman), H. Tai Mitchell, W. Steele, and Archdeacon Chatterton. The board considered the position with regard to the renewal of various High School leases, the discussion being taken in committee. . • * Work For Youths Employment over a period of four to six weeks, is offered to youths desirous of ohtaining work, AU particulars may be obtained from the secretary of the Rotorua Unemployment Relief Committee (Mr. W. A. McLean), Borough Council Ghambers, Rotorua. Openings are availahle for approximately 40 to 50 young men. Traffic Disappointing Railway passenger traffic to Rotorua had been very disappointing during the school holiday period, very little increase in the number of passengers carried having been noticed. The Rotorua stationmaster (Mr. W. Thompson), states that the figures are far helow those of the last holiday period in May.
Rotorua Not Incfuded Apparently the claims of Rotorua were not considered by the New Zealand Expeditionary Force Canteen and Regimental Fund Trust Board when it decided last Friday to increase the present grant from the fund towards the relief of distress from £1000 to £1500 per month. The secretary of the Rotorua branch, New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association (Mr. J. D. Painton), informed a "Post" representative yesterday that he had received notification that no further advances could he expected until Novemher. Awards Cancelled Notification of the cancellation of tho New Zealand Licensed Hotels and New Zealand Private Hotel Employees' awards is given in the latest Gazette published last Thursday. The provisions of the awards cease to take effeet one month from August 22. Committee Praised "Your district has been very fortunate in the administration of its unemployment funds" commented Mr. L. S. Jcssep, chairman of the Unemployment Board to the "Post" yesterday. "Your local committee has done very excellent and efficient work in carrying out its difficult duties." Creating a Disturbance The first case since the Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union decided to seek the aid of the police in taking drastic action against unruly spectators at the Arawa Park occurred yesterday when a man appeared before Mr. D, Sloane, J.P., in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of heing drunk and disorderly. He was fined 7/6 and costs. High School Practice The Rotorua High School first, second and third grade Rugby teams are notified that a general practice will he held at the High School to-morrow afternoon at 2 p.m. Diamond Ring Unclaimed The Rotorua police advise that a three stone diamond ring which was handed to them on July 11 last, having been picked up on the footpath in Ranolf Street in the vicinity of the Kuirau Reserve, still remains unclaimed.
