PRISON ESCAPE
FORCED TO SURRENDER AFTER NINE DAYS STARVATJON. SYDNEY, Sat. Although he had managed to evade police search parties for nine days, Thomas Henry Byrne, 22, who escaped from Goulburn gaol on August 3, was forced by starvation to surrender at the Oberon Afforestation Camp on Friday. When he staggered into th'e camp gaunt, bearded and in ragged clothes the men stood back thinking him mad. He managed, however, to croak who he was, and that he craved food and water. Police from Bathhurst took him in charge. During his nine days of freedom, in which' he covered 150 miles, Byrne had only two full meals.
