SATURDAY'S MATCH

SHAMROCKS BEAT MOUREA AFTER FAST GAME

EXPERIENCE TELLS

At the Government Grounds on Saturday, Shamrocks met Mourea in continuation of the Rotorua women's hoclcey competitions for the Wairua-a-Rangi Cup, a bright game resulting. At the outset, it appeared as if Mourea would gain the decision, Shamrocks being obliged to defend strenuously on many occasions, but later their better condition and experience reversed the position. Shamrocks won the initial bully, but the opposing halves carried play into Shamrock territory where for some time E. Mitchell and J. Chaytor were regularly called upon to protect the goal. After a spell in their own half, Shamrocks broke away and from a centre across the Mourea goalmouth, M. Raimona missed a good opportunity. Shortly afterwards, from an awkward position on the le.ft, M. Mitchell made a good attempt, but missed. The game was developing into a fast display and Mourea, as a result of a fine solo effort by A. George, were successful in gaining the advanr tage just before half-time was called. Shamrocks Improved During the second spell, for a time play was even faster, and Shamrocks commenced to show their true form. The first score came to them as a result of an infringement by the Mourea goalkeeper, the penalty bully being easily won by E. Mitchell. Shamrocks were now having the better of the play, and after attaclcing for some time, Maudie Mitchell followed in well to score their second goal and place the green and whites in the lead. Following play saw Mourea make two good efforts to score, R. Ipu showing to advantage, but they were unsuccessful. A good game ended with Shamrocks atI tacking. Mr. A. C. Watts capably controlled the game. Shamrocks, 2 goals, Mourea 1.
