JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES BEATEN IN MATCH AT MATAMATA
ROTORUA UNLUCKY
The Rotorua Junior representative team was defeated by Matamata by 5 points to nil in the Clark Cup competitions, played at Matamata on Saturday. Soon after the commencement of the match, Matamata broke away and scored the only try of the game, which was converted. Playing a considerably heavier pack, the Rotorua forwards were beaten in the tight, but this disadvantage was counterbalanced by the standard of the backs who were superior to those of the home team. Throwing the ball about in a spectacular manner, the Rotorua backs were many times on the point of scorI ing but the luck was not with them, while good tackling assisted Mata- " 1 - 1 j1 "*»■
mata. With an open field in front of him Matthews failed to keep to his feet and lost a sure scoring chance while Park and Steele were also very unlucky. In the last few minutes of the game Rotorua stormed the Matamata line, but good defence was shown by the home backs and no score resulted, the advantage at call of time remaining j in Matamata's favour.
