The Mayor and | corporation gave the delegates a civic weicome before they disembarked. Mr. Stanley Baldwin said: "We were very happy and united. We did j not care who made the runs, pro- i vided the runs were made and we hope and believe we have done use- [ ful work." Mr. J. H. Thomas said: "The Conference was a success from every | point of view." Official Statement The British delegation issued the following statement upon arrival at Cherbourg : — "The events of the year — the Lausanne Conference, the war loan conversion, and now Ottawa — have shown that we have moved away from the area of deep depression, which has long been clouding the horizon. "With this widespread inspiration, we proceed with full confidence to the world economic conferences, which will form a fitting conclusion to a year of solid and substantial advance to better times. "The agreements with the Dominions at Ottawa were marked by degrees of success far beyond anything which was expected and we are confident they will lead to increased Empire trade, exercising an influence far beyond the Empire's confines. ' "The greater scope given to Australian and New Zealand products in ■ Brifish markets will rescue the pastoralists who are almost on the verge of ruin owing to the calamitous fall in wheat prices. "Steps are being taken to devise the orderly marketing of supplies."
