WIDER MARKETS

INQUIRIES INDICATE CHANCES OF GREATER OVERSEAS TRADE. "There would appear to be very definite interests in New Zealand industries generally," reported Mr. J. Abel, president of tbe Wellington Manufacturers' Association, at its recent rneeting. The association is now receiving a particularly large number of inquiries from persons overseas and also within New Zealand with regard to ths various aspects of New Zealand manufactures. "Ht is common for the association to receive inquiries from different firms in New Zealand requesting information as to whether certain articles are made in New Zealand, and if so the names of manufacturers," added Mr. Abel. "Also another common type of inquiry is from overseas requesting the names of manufacturers who are interested in exporting their lines to | different countries. Another inquiry ! was from a firm, a member of which is about to tour the East in an endeavour to open up business for New Zealand manufacturers and also bring back Eastern samples which New Zealand may he interested in. A Melbourne xnanufacturer is inquiring into the possibility of business if he commenced manufacturing in. New Zealand, specialising exclusively in men's and bols' onter wear. The association forwarded these inquiries to members who may be interested and also notifies the Department of Industries and Commerce." The president reported a considerahle number of inquiries regarding the Hong-Kong Exhibition, as a result of the association having circularised manufacturers whose goods they considered had a possible market in the East. All inquiries are being passed on to the Department of Industries and Commerce. The manufacturers were fully alive to the possibility of this new trade outlet and were taking full advantage of the facilities offering and preparing samples to send forward.
